2023: INEC Announces New Election Dates

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared new dates for the 2023 general elections.

According to the new dates, Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections will hold on March 11, 2023.
Addressing journalists at a news conference in Abuja, INEC National Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu explained that the new date is in conformity with new Electoral laws which stipulates that elections notice be published at least two hundred and sixty days before the elections.

Professor Yakubu said that the Electoral guidelines will also be published in due course.

With the adjusted electoral timetable, all political parties are expected to conduct party primaries and resolve all disputes arising from the primaries between April 4th to June 3rd this year.

Submission of nomination forms by political parties for Presidential and National Assembly elections are expected from 10th June to 17th June of this year while those of Governorship and State Assemblies must be submitted between 1st July to 15th July of this year.
