ASH WEDNESDAY: CHRISTIANS CHARGED TO PRAY FOR PEACE AMONG NATIONS

As Christians all over the world commences Forty days fasting, they have been urged to use the period to pray for peace among nations, especially between Russia and Ukraine.

Bishop of Igbomina Anglican Diocese, Kwara State, Right Reverend Emmanuel Adekola made the appeal in an exclusive interview with Correspondent Lanre Omotoso to commemorate this year Lenten period.

Bishop Adekola emphasized that there may be disagreement among nations, but should be settled with dialogue rather than war, noting that war often lead to destruction of both human and infrastructures.

The Bishop of Igbomina Anglican Diocese said ash placed on forehead of faithful to commemorate the Forty days fasting, known as Ash Wednesday symbolizes sober reflection as well as repentance against sins and humility to desist from iniquities.

Bishop Adekola stressed that the world would be a better place if everyone is selfless, humble and engage in charity as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

He opined that human-being came to the world with nothing and would return to give account to their creator, hence the need to stop unnecessary accumulation of wealth, but to do charity optimally.

While calling on Christians to use the Forty days fasting to pray for the nation to overcome her challenges, Bishop Adekola advised citizens to obey constituted authorities, be diligent in their services as well as pay their taxes.
