At the continued arraignment of Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong by the Kano state government for the alleged murder of his 22-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani before a Kano High Court today, the defendant denied allegations of a culpable homicide charge read to him by the prosecution counsel led by Barrister Musa Abdullahi-Lawan.

Daily News24 reports that the last sitting was stalled because of the lack of an interpreter for the defendant who denied understanding the English language.

When the matter came up today, the prosecuting counsel led by Barr. Musa Abdullahi-Lawan told the court that a Chinese interpreter in the person of Mr Guo Cumru, has been provided by the Chinese Embassy.

The charge read against the defendant was culpable homicide which is punishable by death under section 221 (b) of the penal code.

Following the interpretation of the charge, the defendant pleaded not guilty, thus court gave an order to the prosecution counsel to present witnesses before the court in the next sitting for the continuation of the case.

Speaking with Journalists, Barr. Lawan stated that the witnesses will be provided, adding that “we are ready to prosecute the case and within the next two months we should be concluded with this case.”

The case is to resume hearing on November 16, 17 and Nov. 18, 2022.
