The cloudy weather without rain for more than a month in some parts of the country has been attributed to resultant effect of climate change which may lead to food scarcity.

Head, department of soil resources management, University of Ibadan, Professor Olatunji Oluwasemire made the observation in an exclusive interview with Lanre Omotoso.

Professor Oluwasemire said climate change had altered rainfall pattern resulting to decrease in amount of rainfall in some parts of the world, hence the need to embrace irrigation farming to overcome food insecurity.

The agro-meteorologist emphasized that to enjoy all year round farming and surplus in food production, government should revive most of the moribund river basin commissions.

While noting that major staple crops such as maize, rice and soya required constant water for survival and better yield, the head, department of soil resources management, University of Ibadan, called for cluster farming to be managed by river basin commission for all year round farming to mitigate effects of food shortage.
