Expert calls for establishment of Agriculture to attract youth into Agriculture

In order to make agriculture attractive to Nigerian youth, government at all levels have been urged to create farm estates across the country as practiced in developed countries.

An agricultural consultant, Mr Sola Adeleke made the appeal in an exclusive interview with Lanre Omotoso in Ilorin.

Mr Adeleke said farm estate as being practiced in developed countries is equipped with necessary facilities such as internet, well equipped houses and banks to make life meaningful for the farmers.

The agricultural consultant emphasized that interventions such as clearing of land, supply of improved seedlings and creation of ready-made market through off-takers would elevate spirit of Nigerian youth into agriculture.

While noting that there is scarcity of white collar jobs in the country, the agricultural expert stressed that agriculture which would serve as alternative in Nigeria is favoured with fertile land and climate.

He noted that large scale farming is solution to industrial development and must be tackled with availability of machineries, irrigation facilities as well as making sure that loans get to the real farmers.

Mr Adeleke called on every Nigerians to add farming as parts of their working activities to achieve food security, income generation as well as wading away hunger in the country.
