FOMWAN Commends Supreme Court Judgement On Hijab

The Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria, FOMWAN, has applauded Supreme Court judgement which upheld the use of hijab by Muslim female students at their schools,

It described the judgment as giant stride in support of constitutional rights of freedom of worship as enshrined in the Nigeria Constitution and also it follows the injunction on Islamic modesty for female Muslims as contained in the Holy Qur’an.

This was contained in a statement by the FOMWAN National Amirah, Hajia Rofiah Idowu Sanni and the Chairperson FOMWAN National Publications, Hajia Biliqees Oladimeji.

The statement commends the steadfastness of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MSSN, and other Islamic organisations as well as all the frontline supporters of Muslim ummah on this legal victory.

The FOMWAN however advised proprietors of educational institutions to provide for the divine and human rights of Muslim female students in their design of approved school uniform, calling on the Muslim female students to exhibits confidence and pride in the use of hijab as part of their school uniform.

The Association also advised teachers and parents to teach their students and wards the divine spirit of tolerance as a fundamental principle of peaceful coexistence in a religiously diverse society.
