Inaugural Lecture: Alhikmah Don Calls For Up-to-date Strategic Policies To Harness Agric Potentials In Nigeria

The Federal Government has been tasked to initiate appropriate policies, stem corruption, be well- focused and strategic with active private sector participation to harness the huge potentials in agricultural sector.

Professor Adesina Yusuf Raji, of Department of History and International Studies and Dean Postgraduate School, Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, made the call at the Second Inaugural Lecture of the University which was held at the School auditorium in Ilorin.

While delivering the lecture, titled “Unveiling Nigeria’s Dysfunctional Goldmine: A Chronicle of the Neglected Agricultural Potentials in an Emerging Economy”, Prof. Raji maintained that to harness the much – neglected enormous agriculture’s potentials to build a vibrant national economy, all tiers of government and the governed need to be meaningfully involved.

The Inaugural Lecturer emphasized that agriculture required a secured future to attract several benefits such as wealth creation, food security, youth employment and improved revenue generation among others.

Prof. Raji also called for adequate funding of the sector, use of modern technology in agriculture, development of a functional and realistic national fertilizers policy, among others to ensure food security.
