Kaiama Youths Fill Potholes Across Major Township Roads

A group of concerned youth in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have commenced filling of potholes on roads in Kaiama.

The youth in their numbers were seen carrying and filling potholes with stones and sand in some major roads in Kaiama.

They said they embarked on the community service due to the deplorable condition of roads in Kaiama which they alleged were being neglected by government at all levels.

The Coordinator of the youth, Alhaji Usman Sariki-Sanu said that they can no longer be waiting for the government endlessly to come to their aid in repairing the roads, hence their decision.

Usman Sarki-Sanu noted that the people of Kaiama were known for collective community serve in the past, saying that they are reviving the culture.

The Ciroma of Kaiama, Alhaji Abubakat Omar who addressed the youth on behalf of the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Muazu Kiyaru, thanked the youth for mobilising themselves to serve the community.

He enjoined them to shun acts of lawlessness and continue to embrace good work towards taking Kaiama community to the greater height.

The Emir, however, appealed to Federal, State and Kaiama Local Government to come to the aid of the community in rehabilitating roads in the area, saying that non of the roads is motorable at present.

The youth were supported by tricycle and motorcycle riders union as well as tipper unions to fill the potholes.

Abdullah Ahmed reports that roads, covets, some bridges and farmlands were last week washed away while property worth millions of naira were destroyed following heavy rainfalls in Kaiama.
