Kwara State Government has been urged to put in place appropriate Price Control Mechanism to halt perennial hike in prices of food items and other essential commodities in the state.
This followed a Motion on Notice entitled ” Need to Control High Cost of Food Items in Kwara State” raised by a member representing Kaiama-Kamanje-Wajibe Constituency, Halidu Danbaba at plenary.
Danbaba attributed escalation of prices of food commodities to insecurity thereby hindering farmers from going to the farm for land clearing and cultivation for food production.
He expressed concern over the perennial food items price increase which led to hunger in the society and triggered frustration among the people.
Other lawmakers in their contributions charged food stuff dealers to desist from unnecessary inflation of foodstuff prices particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Reading the resolutions, the speaker Engineer Yakubu Danladi-Salihu urged the state government to direct Weigh and Measure Unit of the Ministry of Enterprise to rise to the responsibility of regulating prices of goods and services in the state
