Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three kidnapping syndicates terrorizing innocent residents of EKiti, Kogi and Kwara States, through forensic analysis of telephone handsets.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama who made this known while parading the suspects in Ilorin, explained that the suspects numbering about six had on the Ninth of last month accosted their victims, one Mr Shina Abiodun of Eruku town and another person who were traveling from Egbe Kogi State and shot at them on their motorcycle, thereby sustaining injuries.
The arrested suspects who confessed to have killed a personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Inspector Segun Ayangbolu of Ekiti State Division, were also responsible for the abduction of another victim and his six year old son from Ekiti State and collected a ransom of Six million naira.
Mr Odama who gave names of those arrested as Babangida Bagudu, Bashiru Yakubu and Mohammed Umar said tactical teams of Anti-Kidnapping Squad recovered two locally made pistols from them while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In a related development, the State Police Command disclosed that a fifteen year old Abubakar Mohammed was kidnapped along Share-Oke-Ode road on the Eleventh of this month and the abductors received a ransom of five hundred thousand naira from their victims family.
After a diligent investigation by State Intelligent Bureau of the Police, one Abubakar Garuba, mostly known as Elero Lokongoma and his accomplice, Abubakar Adam who is a resident of Oke-Ode were arrested.
The gang leader whose name was given as Chairman Rabiu presently on the run, is said to be in custody of the gang’s fire arms and all ransom collected, efforts are on to trail and arrest him.
Mr Odama reiterated that the state police command is determined to make Kwara a hot and uncomfortable place for criminal elements adding that all suspects will be charged to court.
