Organized Labour Unions in Kwara State, have given the State Government 14 days ultimatum for immediate implementation of the agreed minimum wage for all categories of workers in the State.

They also called for upward review of the negotiated minimum wage by 50 percent for all workers in the state, in which failure to comply would lead to industrial action.

This was part of the resolution adopted at the end of the meeting of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress TUC and the Joint Negotiating Council today in Ilorin.

The State NLC Chairman Comrade Aliyu Issa -Ore, Acting State TUC Chairman, Comrade Ezekiel Adegoke and State Chairman JNC Comrade Saliu Suleiman stated that after critical analysis of the present economic situation, the unions concluded that the implementation of the new minimum wage is long over due.

They expressed concern on attempt by the State Government to justify the disparity in the salaries of health workers in the State, as health personnel in State employment enjoyed 10 percent increase in salary over same set of workers in the local government.

The Labour unions strongly canvassed for implementation of the 10 percent outstanding CONHESS to local government workers as well.

They also expressed dissatisfaction with the directive of the Governor to Ministry of Finance to stop deductions and remittance of Union Check-off dues and other third party deductions to the concerned Unions and associations in the State.
