Nigerian youths have been urged to upgrade their welding and fabrication skills to enhance food security in the country.
Executive Director, National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization, NCAM, Engineer Muideen Kasali made the call at opening ceremony of Twenty-One day national training for youth in welding and fabrication of agro processing machines and equipment in Idofian, Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State.
Engineer Kasali said upgrading their skills in using indigenous technology to fabricate agro processing machines such as planters, harvesters and storage facilities would reduce drudgery in farming activities.
The NCAM boss stressed that to reduce unemployment, youth should also endeavour to access federal governments fund through innovation to achieve food security for the country.
Similarly, a director in the engineering department in NCAM, Dr. Isaac Ozumba advised the youth during the training to be safety conscious to avoid accident in the workshop.
Dr Ozumba stressed that the centre had procured digital measuring tape for accurate measurement to strengthen their technological know-how.
The Director in department of Engineering while giving assurance that the youth would be thoroughly trained by resource persons from NCAM, urged them to ask questions where necessary and cross-fertilise idea.
