NSCDC KWARA STATE COMMAND NABS 26 SUSPECTS FOR VANDALIZING GOVERNMENT PROPERTY

The kwara State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested 26 suspects for vandalizing electric armoured cables and other valuable items.

This is in fulfilment of the Corp’s statutory functions and mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure.

The NSCDC State Commandant, Makinde Iskil Ayinla in his statement disclosed that, he recieved a distress call via the command’s community intelligence network about the criminal activities of vandals at Araromi, Akata Tanke on Wednesday 28th of April, 2021 at about 1400hrs.

“Our men was able to discover their hideout while on the trail of the suspected vandals. The prime suspects Tanko, Bashir L.k and Nafiu respectively took to their heels, the combatant and the gallant show down of the commands combined force made them abandone some electric armoured cable and a bajaj motorcycle.”

However, one Sulieman Abdullahi who accommodated the three suspects who are presently at large was arrested alongside other 25 suspected vandals who claimed to be scavengers.

Investigation revealed that, Sulieman Abdullahi under the pretence of scavenging discarded items, employed the services of the suspects to vandalize government properties and also perpetrate other criminal acts.

“As part of the investigation, a search team was sent to Suleiman Abdullahi’s house and discovered the following suspected stolen and vandalised items: 7 burnt armoured cables, 2 solar panels, 6 pumping machines, 1 new generator, 3 laptops and several phones, the statement partly reads.

All recovered items have been brought to the kwara state command, headquaters. Investigation also revealed that, among the arrested suspects, 11 are adults, while the remaining 15 are under aged.

The commandant affirmed that the escaped suspected vandals would not be spared as the command will ensure they are brought to book.

Iskil warned youths in the state to shun crime and criminality, including vandalization of critical government infrastructures noting that vandalism is a sabotage to the nation’s economy and security.

The state NSCDC Boss said the adult amidst the suspects would be charged to court while the minor would be repatriated back to their states for rehabilitation.
