NSCDC Move To Forestall Imminent Transport Unions Crises In Ilorin

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Wednesday hold a meeting with three separate transport unions in the operating at Alagbado area of the Ilorin metropolis in order to forestall a possible bloody showdown that was imminent among the three unions.

According to the NSCDC spokesman in the State Babawale Zaid Afolabi the Corps was acting on an Intelligence information available to the corps that the trio of Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria ( RTEAN) and National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW) were planning to engage in a bloody showdown over the control and ownership of the area.

” The State Commandant Makinde Iskil Ayinla has directed the crisis management department to be invite the three transport unions representatives into a peace meetings as the intelligence report reaching us confirmed that they were planning to attack one another as a result of who has the right to operate in the area.”. Babawale disclosed.

The CDPRO stressed further that trouble reared its ugly head as NURTW wanted to starting operating in the area which has not gone down well with TOAN and RTEAN who have the total control of the territory and are not ready to allow NURTW to operate in the area.

” The Commandant who was represented at the meeting by the HOD NSCDC Crises Management Department, DCC Odeniran Esther appealed to the three unions to go and resolve the matter amicably Within themselves and desist from any action or inaction that can jeopardize in the peace atmosphere in the State.
They all gave their words not to engage in any bloody showdown and undertaking were prepared and signed by the representatives of the three unions” Babawale added.
