OPINION: Orphans and the Family’s Failed Promises

Orphan is said to be a child whose parents have died, unknown, or have permanently abandoned them (Wikipedia). In common usage, only a child who has lost both parents to the cold hand of death is referred to as Orphans.

Expanding the definition, UNICEF and GLOBAL partners said, it include child below the 18 years of age who lost one or both parents to any cause of death, as “Death” is inevitable, every soul will definitely have the taste of it.

Setting the record straight, unless if the assumption is wrong or my personal view, it’s observed that most family houses are occupied with highest population of mothers(especially the aged)who had lost their husbands.

Given this prologue, only an orphan and the likes will understand more than I do just like the popular saying, the experienced is far better than certified average learner.

After the so called orphan loses one or both parents, the future may likely be at stake, though Assurances and promises are made, “we’ll continue from where your father stopped, we’ll send you to school, we will feed and cloth you and many more promises “but what normally end these Promises?

Years later, struggle begin, life may become tough for an orphan who lost both parents and a little bit better for the one who lost only one, while the other parent begin to struggle all alone to raise the child especially when it’s the mother that’s left behind.

The family members may be no where to be found and if they are, complain become their responses.

Sometimes you will consider a child lucky when the parent is wealthy and leave behind properties sufficient enough for life sustenance, but quiet unfortunate, family who is in charge of this property may enrich themselves with it and render the orphan helpless, forgetting the day of accountability.

Some orphans at the same time are so lucky to have relatives who can see to their affairs, paying their school fees, feeding and clothing them. If these people did not aim to enslave the orphan, i will conclude that their reward is here and thereafter but eventually most of these favour are eye service (Oju Aye) and to enslave, once the Orphan demand freedom he’s tagged ungrateful and the favours force stopped.

Its quiet irritating when you render favour(s) to your blood relations expecting pay back, from who? Every deed is rewardable by nature, may be you are not aware.

Dear Orphan(s), did you know you will have much more rest of minds in future when you fight your battle and succeed without depending on any any family members? Though, it’s very difficult.

Fatiu Temitope Olohungbebe in one of his class with his communication students in 2013 said “The more family members that contributed to your success, the more problem you are likely to have” because all of them will request for a payback, definitely.

In a simple term, if you are to seek for help it’s advised you seek from outsiders. Most times outsiders help without looking back not like a family member who sit on your neck, expecting you to dance to their tone and you have to, it’s he who pays the Piper that dictates the tune.

Dear wealthy family members, why are you looking down on those less privileges in your blood lines? May be you are not aware that those children you have failed to assist today, turning to hooligans, garage conductors, smokers are the one that may not allow you and your children to have rest of mind tomorrow by attacking your homes and looting your luxuries.

And never be surprised if those children fought their battle alone, won and even succeed than your children.

To the ones who helped without looking back, continue, you will never lack, it’s well written on the marble.

And to the receivers(Orphans) always be grateful, he who is grateful for an iota of good receives more.

My heartfelt prayers go to every orphan outside there struggling to survive, May you all receive God’s favour in the shortest time.
