Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has refuted circulating reports that he requested permission from President Muhammadu Buhari to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The paper, dated June 24, 2022, with the reference number SH/VP/605/2./0 and titled “Permission to retire from APC,” stated family pressure and other grounds for the purported choice.

Mr. Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, denied the legitimacy of the supposed document when asked to authenticate its veracity.

According to him, the language of the document’s author is not that of Osinbajo, noting that his boss would not have written such an error-ridden memo.

“From where do you even obtain such things? Who handed you this? Without a doubt, the memo is fictitious. “VP did not write this,” he stated.

The ‘false memorandum’ supposedly authored and signed by Osinbajo states, “I have the honour to notify you that I have been having a series of meetings and pressure from my immediate family members on several topics for some time now. One of the difficulties is to my ongoing participation in active and partisan politics, and by consequence, my ongoing membership in our party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“As a father and outstanding member, without whom I would not be where I am now, I reluctantly write to request permission to resign from the All Progressives Congress, APC. Nonetheless, if the timing of this proposal is not convenient or acceptable to Your Excellency, I shall adhere to your choice and counsel, which I will regard as final. Please accept my greatest regards and unwavering commitment.
