Sokoto State Police Command has arrested and detained a police sergeant, Bello Garba who killed a worshipper and injured three others at the Sultan Muhammad Bello Mosque, Sokoto state.
The officer shot to disperse suspected area boys who were said to be fighting over money given to them by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who observed his Juma’at prayer along with the Sultan at the mosque.
A statement signed by the spokesman of the command, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Sani Kaoje has called for investigation into the incident.
The Commissioner condemned the conduct of the officer describing it as unprofessional.
Kaoje had ordered for immediate detention and commencement of trial of the erring office.
He charged officers and men of the command to always be psychologically balance while on duty in order to enhance the safety of the people of the state.
