COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 57TH ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF ILORIN EMIRATE DESCENDANTS PROGRESSIVE UNION (IEDPU) HELD BETWEEN 25TH AND 26TH DECEMBER, 2022

PREAMBLE

The 57th edition of the annual National Conference of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, (IEDPU), held between Sunday, 25th and Monday,26th December, 2022 with an opening ceremony at the Forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji ( Dr. Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari CFR).

The programme attracted dignitaries and delegates from 128 branches of the Union.The opening session of the conference had in attendance, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who commended the Union for embarking on the construction of a Skills Acquisition Centre, which he described as a great project that needed the support of all for quick completion.

The Emir of Ilorin Alhaji ( Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR who is also the Chairman, Kwara State Council of Emirs and Obas as well as the life patron of the Union, while praying for more progress and elevation for all sons and daughters of the Emirate, called for more love and unity among the entire people of the Emirate.

The second session of the conference was held at Bode- Saadu, the headquarters of Moro Local Government Area. It was hosted by the local government administration under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Isiaka Ganiyu Alikinla. The session also had in attendance, the four Baloguns in the Emirate and Magaji Are, Daudus and Magaji in Moro and the Hausa/ Fulani Communities.

RESOLUTIONS

After the deliberation on and adoption of the reports of statutory committees, the conference resolves as follows:

1. In view of the forthcoming 2023 general election, the Union reiterates the fact that it remains nonpartisan as it maintained its friendly disposition to all. It therefore, calls for violence free elections and urged politicians and their supporters to sustain unity and peaceful coexistence that have been the heritage of Ilorin Emirate. Indigenes of the Emirate were also charged not to allow politics to divide them and truncate the harmonious peaceful atmosphere in their domains.

2. On the issue of poor state of our road network and waste management programmes, the IEDPU commends the Kwara State government on its strive towards fixing some roads in Ilorin metropolis and pleaded for the rehabilitation of other roads in deplorable conditions within the Emirate and the state at large.

3. On waste management, the Union appreciates the gesture, and at the same time, implores the Ministry of Environment and other stakeholders in the sector to adopt new techniques devoid of unnecessary traffic snarls.

4. IEDPU commends the Federal Government of Nigeria on the establishment of Federal Neuro- psychiatric Hospital, Budo- Egba, as it salutes the Senator representing Kwara Central at the Red Chambers, Dr. Ibrahim Yahya Oloriegbe and other collaborators in the process of making the dream of the hospital a reality. The Union, however, appealed for quick takeoff of the approved Federal College of Education, Afon.

5. On the challenge of insecurity battling the nation, and in recent times, Ilorin Emirate and Kwara in general; which includes kidnapping for ransom, herders/ farmers clash, the Union calls on both the state and the federal government to be more proactive as the challenges have become a threat to the unity of the nation.

6. The Union emphasizes the need for government at all levels to look into the high rate of unemployment which has been on the increasing level and breeding criminalities in the society. It also calls for an enabling environment for the survival of farmers and improvement of entrepreneurship in order to boost economy of the state and invest in the youth. In this regard, industrialization of the state with possibility of looking at the area of agriculture and other ways of creating job opportunities for the indigenes and people of the state in general was emphasized, with the view to drawing attention of the youth away from thuggery, cybercrime, cultism and other forms of social vices.

7. The union decries the high cost of food items and other goods and commodities,epileptic power supply, poor standard of the health sector, incessant strike in federal universities and the unfriendly price of fuel.

8. The Union, therefore, appeals to government to put in place, policies that will cushion the effects of economic hardship facing the nation in all ramifications.

9. The IEDPU, while emphasizing that the people of Ilorin Emirate are very accommodating and friendly, however, adds that their tolerance does not amount to allowing people of other religious inclinations trespass their boundaries. Specifically, the Union warns Osun adherents to desist from moving around Mosques, markets and other places in the name of propagating Osun.

10. On a final note, the Union felicitates with all indigenes recently elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, those promoted to the rank of Professor as well as those who recorded career progression in various federal Ministries, Departments and Parastatals. Also, the IEDPU, under the leadership of Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi, appreciates all those who contributed immensely towards the success of the 2022 National Conference in various ways and prayed Allah to preserve and protect them against all evils.
