World Kidney Day: Medical Expert Calls For Regular Kidney Checkup

The need to increase awareness and regular checkup of kidney health with a view to preventing chronic kidney disease has been stressed.

The Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr Abubakar Ayinla made the call in Ilorin at a media briefing organised in conjunction with Worthy Life Education and Health Foundation to mark the 2021 World Kidney Day.

According to Dr Ayinla, kidney disease affect about Eight Hundred and Fifty Million people worldwide hence the need to increase awareness on preventive measures.

The Permanent Secretary, who noted that kidney diseases were preventable, explained that early detection would go a long way in saving many lives.

He enjoined the people of Kwara State to avail themselves of the opportunity created by Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq’s administration by embarking on regular kidney checkup for early detection, management and treatment.

Earlier, Chief Executive Officer of the Worthy Life Education and Health Foundation, Mrs Abayomi Oluwatoyin explained that the foundation in collaboration with Kwara State Government would carry out free medical checkup on over Two Hundred people tomorrow at Ipata market, Ilorin to mark the day.

Mrs Abayomi stressed that her foundation focuses on the importance of the kidneys and encourages health habits towards reducing the frequency and impact of Kidney disease.

Correspondent Abdullah Ahmed reports that the World Kidney Day was established in 2006 to draw attention to health problems and risk factors that can lead to Chronic Kidney Disease.

The theme for this year’s World Kidney Day is Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere.
