A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly representing Essa/Shawo/Igboidun Constituency, Abdulwaheed Gbenga Yusuf has presented a trophy to the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, YSFON, Offa chapter, for an annual football competition.
Presenting the trophy at his Office in the House of Assembly Complex, Ilorin, Abdulwaheed, explained that the tournament was introduced to raise the standard of football in Offa and Kwara state at large, noting that the state is known for talents discovery and such tradition should not be allowed to go into extinction.
Abdulwaheed also pointed out that football development from the grassroots needs to be fully supported as the likes of late Rashidi Yekini, Dele Aiyenugba and Taiwo Awoniyi were products of grassroots football.
The lawmaker said the winners will smile home with the sum of N150,000, while the first and second runners-up will get N100, 000 and N75, 000 respectively.
Earlier, the State Chairman of YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola commended Abdulwaheed Yusuf for setting the pace in grassroots football development with the sponsorship of the inaugural edition of the Honourable’s Cup competition.
