Radio Nigeria Agric Correspondent, Lanre Omotoso Honoured By Women In Agric Business

Government at various levels have been urged to provide enabling environment for women farmers to help eradicate hunger in the country.

Chairperson, Women In Agric Business, WIAB, Mrs Rebecca Ajala gave the appeal at the annual Agric day and presentation of awards to personalities for supporting Women in agriculture at Oro, Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State.

Mrs Rebecca identified insecurity, banditry, herders grazing farmlands, finance and fake farm inputs as parts of challenges confronting women farmers not to maximize their potentials.

Meanwhile, Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Sabbah Gideon advised women farmers to form themselves into cooperatives to be able to enjoy government’s intervention.

Director of Agric service, Mallam Kabir Mohammed who represented the Commissioner explained that government door is open to provide them with inputs and training to improve their capacities.

In a remark, WIAB Cordinator, Otunba Tajudeen Mohammed said the group was established in 2018 to improve capacity of women in crop production, poultry, fishery, piggery and processing of crops.

Correspondent Deborah Adebayo reports that Mr Lanre Omotoso of News and Current Affairs, Radio Nigeria, Harmony FM, Idofian was among awardees that included Managing Director of Kwara ADP, Alhaji Tunde Salam, National Vice Chairman of AFAN, Comrade Olawale Ajibola, Dr Kayode Ehindero of NIWOSEC, Chief Samuel Ogunleye of Kwara AFAN, Vice Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Mrs Folashade, Olori Aminat Opadoye Mrs Adeola Adedoyin and Mrs Yemisi Fashakin among others.
