Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika says the Buhari administration will be remembered for strengthening of institutions for running the civil aviation in the country in line with global best practices.
The Minister said this while answering questions from newsmen after presenting scorecard of the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the aviation sector.
He said deliberate steps such as appointment of CEOs, holders of various positions, programmes and projects embarked upon by the Aviation Ministry, were geared towards empowering the industry.
Senator Sirika added that other steps include provision of right services for safety, efficiency and making air transportation most preferred mode of transportation in the country.
Speaking on ceding of the Nigeria Air to Ethiopian Airlines, the Minister said the step was taken considering the fact that the Ethiopian Airlines, being indigenous to African and having been in existence for the past 70 years with the record of surviving wars and the COVID-19 as well as recording huge profits during the pandemic.
The Nigerian Minister of Aviation regretted that the Nigerian Airline went down due to bad governance, issues of free tickets, government sponsorship of pilgrimages as well as lackadaisical attitude by management staff of the national carrier.
