Aisha Buhari, Gambari, Five Others Get Honourary Doctoral Degree As KWASU Holds Hybrid Convocation

Kwara State University, Malete, says it will adopt hybrid mode (Virtual and Physical) for its 8th and 9th convocation, as First Lady Aishat Buhari and six other distinguished Nigerians would be awarded honourary doctoral degree.

Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Muhammadu Mustspha Akanbi disclosed this at a media briefing to begin the combined convocation ceremony.

Professor Akanbi who enumerated the achievements of the university to include consistent academic calendar in spite of the Covid-19 upstair and turning out employable graduates said a total of 6, 620 students would be graduating in the combined convocation with 98 first class, 340 Masters’ and 60 Ph.D. degrees.

While explaining that almost all the university’s courses have assumed full accreditation status by the NUC, Processor Akanbi noted that KWASU is the first university in North Central Nigeria to float the Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science thus contributing to solving the problem of shortage of qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists in the country.

The Vice Chancellor also justified the decision of the university to honour seven eminent Nigerians with doctoral degree citing their countless contributions to the country and humanity.

Those that would receive the award at the Saturday’s convocation are; First Lady Aishat Buhari, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Chancellor of the institution, Engineer Johnson Bamide Adewumi, Alhaji Muhammad Indimi, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Alhaji Kamoru Yusuf and Babatunde Omotowa.

The event was rounded off with an exhibition of the school’s products and innovations archived at the Muhammadu Buhari Library Complex, Malete.
