Citizens Should Join Hands With Government To Tackle Insecurity- Oladimeji

Nigerians have been advised to re-orientate themselves and join hands with government in tackling insecurity in the country.

The Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Al-Hikman University, Ilorin, Professor Abdullateef Oladimeji gave the advice during the maiden Ramadan Lecture organised by Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Professor Abdullateef Oladimeji whose lecture centred on Security and National Development: The Islamic Perspectives, identified national security as everybody business, hence the need for all to fight it collectively for peace and meaningful development.

He attributed the security challenges to high rate of corruption, moral decades and lack of true religion practice and upbringing of children among both Christians and Muslims at home and schools.

Professor Oladimeji however admonished Nigerians to turn to God and pray fervently most especially in this period for divine intervention in the affairs of the country.

Earlier, the Director General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Ilorin, Comrade Issa Aremu said that the programme was organised to complement efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in fighting against corruption and insecurity.

Comrade Issa Aremu, who lauded the President efforts and determination to keep Nigeria peaceful and one indivisible entity, identified corruption and lack of patriotism among the citizens as major cause of security thread in the country.

He condemned attacked on Nigerians and government facilities most especially the recent train attack, and called for collective efforts to tackle the situation.

Comrade Issa Aremu intimated the gathering that the institute included security studies in it curriculum to train workers on security issues as they were mostly affected when there was security breach.

The Ramadan Lecture was attended by both Christians and Muslims as well as dignitaries from all walks of life.
