Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has urged the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police to ensure the full enforcement of the laws against sale and consumption of alcohol and all forms of pool betting as well as related offences in prohibited parts of Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.
This appeal was made by the National President of the Union, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, on Tuesday while speaking at the consultative meeting held between the Police Command and community leaders at the Command Headquarters, Ilorin.
Alhaji Abdulmalik decried the mindless way in which the laws are being violated across the city of Ilorin, saying that it is the responsibility of the Police to enforce the laws for sanity to reign.
He added that most of the crimes and criminality being perpetuated across the city were encouraged by alcohol and drug addictions.
Alhaji Abdulmalik, however, thanked the Police for the relentless war being waged against criminals since the present Commissioner of Police assumed the leadership of the State Command last year.
He assured the Command of the readiness of the Union and the community at large to assist the Police in ensuring that peace and orderliness prevail.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Mr Mobolaji Victor Olaiya, said that the meeting was organised to seek the support of the leaders of various communities in crime prevention and control.
The Police Chief urged IEDPU and the traditional chiefs and leaders of Ilorin Emirate as well as other stakeholders to assist the Police in curbing crimes and criminality, particularly the resurgence in waves of cult killings.
While thanking various communities across the State for their support, Mr Victor Olaiya assured that all the observations raised by the Union and other community leaders would be faithfully considered for implementation.
Present at meeting were the Magaji Aare of Ilorin, Alhaji Shuaib Aremu Zubair; the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin,Alhaji Abubakar Sidiq Atiku; the Balogun Ajikobi of Ilorin,Alhaji Isiaka Okunrinjeje; the District Head of Lanwa, Alhaji Olanrongbe Gambari; the District Head of Afon, Alhaji Kola Balogun.
Also present were the IEDPU National Vice President, Alhaji AbdulRauf Babatunde Issa and its National Secretary, Mallam Abubakar Imam, among others.
