FOMWAN advocates increased awareness for girl-child education as world marks international day of the girl child

It is important that parents and caregivers educate children especially girl child about the anatomy of their body, so when anyone fiddles with parts of her body which are private, she raises a voice.

This was the submission of the Resource Person and Associate Professor of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Dr. Saudat Sallah AbdulBaqi at the seminar to commemorate this year’s International Day of Girl Child organised by Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) in Ilorin.

Dr. Saudat AbdulBaqi explained that if a child grows with the knowledge of sensitivity and sacredness of her body, nobody can intimidate her, hence the need for parents and caregivers to win the trust of their children so as to be their confidant.

The University Don who went historical lane on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, Peace be upon Him, advised girl child to have self esteem, be intelligent and forthright so as to live above board in the Society.

In an opening remark, the state Amirah of FOMWAN, Hajia Maimunah Sheu stated that the day celebrates the importance, access to education, empowerment and potential of girls around the world which was in conformity with FOMWAN mission.

The State Commissioner for Sport and Youth Development , Mrs. Joana Kolo who was represented by Hajia Fatimah Abolore Jimoh charged girls to be knowledgeable and speak out when harassed.

Also, The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu said girls are priceless, as they are a true blessings for the present and future of humanity.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu who stressed that gone were the days girl’s education ends in the kitchen said the change in dimension is manifest with the present administration of Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazak who appointed about 52.8 percent of women in his cabinet.

She advised girls to equip themselves with education and vocational skills and believe in themselves so as not to jeopardize their potentials.

She said that sensitization is important to achieve secured and safe environment for girls against gender based violence.

The Commissioner lauded the efforts of FOWMAN for organizing the event and commended the girls present at the occasion for attending the seminar which she said it would aid their foresight.

The event had in attendance the State Special Senior Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Jemila Bio Ibrahim, executives of FOMWAN, Former National Vice President, NAWOJ Hajia Bilkis Oladimeji, representatives of dignitaries and school girls among others.

The theme for this year’s celebration is My Voice : Our Equal Future
