Kwara Assembly approves N243.5 million for medical equipment, calls for Security Trust Fund

Kwara House of Assembly has approved the sum of two hundred and forty three point five million naira received as COVID 19 donations for procurement of medical equipment and construction of monocular laboratories in the state.

This followed a message from Governor Abdulraman Abdulrazaq addressed to the Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu and read during plenary seeking the approval of the state legislature to utilize the COVID 19 donations for medical facilities towards fighting the pandemic in the country.

The lawmakers while speaking on the matter charged the state government to ensure that COVID 19 medical facilities are provided in the three Senatorial Districts in order to contain the disease.

Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu therefore directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Alimah Jummai Kperogi to communicate the notice of approval to the Governor.

Meanwhile an appeal has gone to the Kwara State Government to as a matter of urgency set the necessary machinery in motion for implementation of State Security Trust Fund Law.

This was a sequel to a Motion on Notice titled “Need to implement the Kwara State Security Trust Fund Law” raised by a member representing Irepodun Constituency, Felix Awodiji.

Mr Awodiji advocated dedicated Security Trust Fund where individuals and corporate bodies would donate for security to ensure safety of lives and property in the state

He described the increasing crimes and criminalities in the state as disturbing particularly the recent Endsars Protests which culminated into looting, arson of both public and private property.

In his reaction, the Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu said the the Trust Fund when operational would make the security agencies to be proactive in the discharge of their duties in safeguarding lives and property in the state.
