The Saudi Arabia Health authority has said that all Muslims that want to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca must provide proof that they have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Saudi Arabia’s Health Ministry confirmed the decision in a statement on Tuesday, saying that vaccination would be “the primary condition for participation”.
Health Minister Tawfiq Al Rabiah said “compulsory vaccination” would be required for all pilgrims.
All Muslims who have the means to perform Hajj are required to do so at least once in their lifetime. The pilgrimage comprised of a five-day series of rituals attended by over two million people around the world.
Muslims believe the rituals offer a chance to wipe past sins and start a new life before God.
