2023: INEC Calls For Active Youths Participation

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has call on Nigerian youth to actively participate in politics ahead of 2023 general elections.

Keynote Speaker at the Summit and  INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu made the call  during a Summit on  Youth and Democracy with the theme: Youth and Sustaining Democracy in Nigeria, Issues, challenges and way forward, Organized by  ECOWAS Youth Council in Ilorin.

The INEC Chairman who was represented by kwara state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Malam Garba Madami noted that Nigeria youth represents about seventy percent of total registered voters in the country and affirmed that the youth are the future of democracy in Nigeria.

Conveigner of the Summit, Ambassador Ishola Rafiu In his address, declared that West African Youth Particularly In Nigeria are now determined to ensure that democracy works for the people in the region.

Ambassador Rafiu  pledged that the group would continue to initiate activities that would enhance free, fair and credible elections towards Sustainability of democracy in the country.

Guest speaker at the Summit, Alhaji Hakeem Lawal who addressed the  Summit Virtually on Zoom advised Nigeria youth to be more coordinated and must aspire to contest for Political offices.

Alhaji Lawal affirmed that the struggle for the not too young to run bill which was agitated for and passed into law must not be a waste of exercise urging the youth to use their number as a political tool to take over power come 2023.

Another Guest speaker at the Summit,Kogi State Head of Service Mrs Hannah Odiyo charge the Nigeria Youth to be more actively involved in all Political activities in their various localities describing the forth Coming general elections  as youth O clock.

She affirmed that Nigerian youth are valuable asset driving Sustainable democracy and development across the country based on their large number, strength and consciousness.

Victor Babayemi reports that there were goodwill messages from guests, launch of Youth Against Electoral Violence Movement and Award Presentations.
