The runner up in the just concluded elections of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abdullahi Dare Akogun, has urged members of the Union across the State to support the new executives of the council in the interest of growth and development of the council in the state.

Akogun stated this on Thursday July 15, 2021 when he paid a “thank-you visit” to the University of Ilorin chapel of the NUJ for its support to him throughout the electioneering period.

He said that it was very important for members of the union to move on because elections had come and gone and that the Union would ever remain, pointing out that “the Union belongs to all and we must do everything to ensure that it remains virile.

He assured that he and his team as well as supporters were ready to work with the new Chairman of the Union, Abdulateef Ahmed, in order to make the Union become one indivisible entity for the benefits of members.
Akogun, who was accompanied by the Director-General of his Campaign Organisation, Yinka Owolewa of the News Agency of Nigeria, thanked members of the Unilorin Chapel for trooping out en-masse to participate in the elections.

In his response the Station Manager of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, Mr. Idris Alooma, commended Akogun for introducing a new strategy in campaign, which was quite uncommon in the history of NUJ politics in Kwara State.

Mr. Alooma said that he was particularly happy that Dare Akogun took a bold and unusual step in congratulating the winner, immediately after the announcement of the results of the elections, pointing out that this attribute was worthy of emulation by politicians.

The Station Manager explained that though he lost the election, Akogun has certainly gained a lot of experiences and has become better known among his colleagues and members of the public who monitored the NUJ electioneering processes.
