President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the new Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Beyero ,to continue to promote tolerance and perseverance, to make the ancient city of Kano a center for all, as was exhibited by his late father.
President Buhari gave the advice during the formal presentation of staff of office to the new Emir of Kano held at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kano state North Western Nigeria.
He tasked the new Emir to exhibit resilience, tolerance, perseverance and above all fear of God in his leadership qualities as those were the attributes that made his father, Abdullahi Ado Bayero, a great leader that he was.
“Try to ensure that the legacy of perseverance, tolerance and sound leadership qualities of you late father are maintained, ”
“As you go on, the wisdom, courage integrity of your father should even be exceeded,” he advised.
He said Kano is a very important city not only to Nigeria but Africa, as it has always being a reserve for commercial activities, tolerance, free market economy and a city for both right and leftist political thinkers.
“Whenever you come to Kano, you are always welcome, Kano remains a home for all. It has given birth great politicains like Aminu Kano and great capitalist like Aliko Dangote,” he said.
He prayed that God prosper him in his reign as the 15th Emir of Kano.
The president was represented by his Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
The Chief of staff to the president, Professor Ibrahim Gambari in a letter read on behalf of President assured the New Emir of Kano the support of the Federal Government for him to succeed.
“I wish to assure you of the support of the government for good leadership,” he said.
Kano state Governor Dr. Umar Ganduje advised the Emir to be steadfast in his leadership and do nothing that will tarnish his image.
“Make good of your authority to promote peaceful co-existence, eschew anything that will tarnish your image and always remain neutral for Kano to achieve developments and reach the promise land,”
He said his administration has high repute for traditional institutions as they bring development to the grassroots, enhance unity, peaceful co-existence and security in the system.
He said the new Emir has the history of relating to the grassroots despite his royal privileges,as such he is of high hope that he will rule well, as already demonstrated since he ascended the throne.
“The entire city was in jubilation when he was appointed because of his antecedents,” said the Governor.
The Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero in his acceptance speech said his assention to the throne was an act of God as he is not greater than anybody.
“It was Allah’s choice and will, not my power” said the Emir.
