CLIMATE CHANGE: EECCA To Launch One Trillion Trees Planting Project

Government at all levels and other stakeholders in the country have been urged to play essential role in mitigating the negative impact of climate change and environmental degradation which lead to health challenges at all levels.

The Kwara State Ambassador of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Earth, Environment and Climate Care Ambassadors, EECCA, Mr Nasirudeen Adeyemi made the call during a press briefing held in Ilorin to mark the National Media Week with the theme, “The Expected Role & Responsibility of Government and Stakeholders in Addressing Global Climate Change”.

Mr Nasirudeen Adeyemi stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together to transform the environmental landscape of the country, saying that the organisation is set to work with International Development Partners to plant trees for rehabilitation of global forces to tackle the spate of climate change and global warming.

The State Ambassador explained that the EECCA is a registered, accredited and certified NGO with branches across the Thirty-six states of the federation and the FCT with the cardinal objectives of creating public awareness on current global climate change, environmental degradation and health challenges at all levels as well as establishing world-class waste management and recycling plants within the Seven Hundred and Seventy-Four Local Government Areas of the Federation among others.

He said that the NGO since the establishment had made some landmark achievements including establishment of structures in all the States with the National Secretariat in Abuja with a minimum number of Five Thousand volunteers in each state, successful introduction of National Uniform and securing of many hectares of lands for seedlings and tree planting activities across the country.

Mr Nasirudeen Adeyemi noted that among other upcoming programmes of the NGO were official inauguration of One Trillion Trees Planting Project with the theme “Plant-For-the Planet”, launching of an unbeatable Radio and Television Stations and organising of first Scientific Global Conference On Climate Change And Environmental Toxicology by next year in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment.

The Press Briefing, which featured question and answer session, was attended by some invited personalities as well as executives and members of the Earth, Environment and Climate Care Ambassadors, EECCA.
