The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs and Obas, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has charged the new Chief Reciter, (Ajanasi Agba) Shaykh Mujitaba Yusuf Bature to guard jealously, all the customs and traditions of Ilorin Emirate.
Dr Sulu-Gambari gave the charge during the turbaning ceremony of the new Ajanasi Agba of Ilorin Emirate at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin the Kwara State capital.
He charged the new Chief Reciter to demonstrate dedication and commitment while discharging responsibilities of his office, promote and project the heritage of the founding fathers of Ilorin Emirate.
Dr Sulu-Gambari also enjoined the young Ajanasi Agba to operate with fear of Allah, respect elders and protect the sanctity of the tradition and norms of the ancient city of Ilorin as laid down by Shaykh Alimi hundreds of years ago.
The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Bashir Solih offered special prayers for the new Chief Reciter and beseeched Allah to guide and guard him and to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Speaking on the significance of the turnbaning ceremony, a Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin, Badmas Lanre Yusuf explained that the Ajanasi Agba of Ilorin Emirate is the Chief Reciter of the Quran in the palace of the Emir during the age-long Ramadan Tafsir sessions.
Professor Yusuf expressed confidence that the new Ajanasi Agba would live up to the expectation given his background and academic pursuit and pray Allah to grant him long life and a successful time in office.
The New Chief Reciter of Ilorin Emirate, Shaykh Mujitaba Yusuf Bature is a thirty-four year old doctoral student and a lecturer at the Language Immersion Centre of the University of Ilorin and was educated at Benin Republic and Nigeria respectively.
