FG Pledges Continuous Engagement With Workers On How To Avert Industrial Action

Federal government says it will continue to engage workers with knowledge and education on how to avert industrial actions.

Director General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu made the promise at opening of a Two day strategic planning workshop for sustainable performance in Ilorin.

Comrade Aremu who said industrial action embarked upon by resident doctors was lack of knowledge about labour relations, called on resident doctors and federal government to shift ground in the interest of the poor masses.

The Director General of MINILS said the institute is in tandum with President Muhammadu Buhari’s vision of bringing One Hundred Million Nigerians out of poverty with determination to train Five Hundred Thousand workers annually on labour relations to avert strike.

Similarly, chairman, governing council of MINILS, Chief Frank Kokori said the institute with Comrade Aremu at helms of affairs would put modality in place to educate workers on how to avoid incessant strike in the country.

The former Secretary General of NUPENG who applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for signing petroleum industrial act, stressed that it was for the benefit of host communities, noting that oil companies would have opposed it if it would benefit Nigerians.

Representative of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, a German foundation dedicated to organization transformation, Dr Daniel Mann, said they collaborate with MINILS on how workers and employers would interact harmoniously without strike.

Dr Mann emphasized that with labour education, there would be true transformation in the workplace that would translate to productivity and efficiency.

Correspondent Lanre Omotoso reports that there were goodwill messages from Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, staff of MINILS among others.
