Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has called on motorists to maintain positive attitude while on the road to combat traffic crashes in the country.

The Kwara State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Jonathan Owoade made the call at the mega rally of the 2020 ember month’s safety campaign organised by the RS8.19 Idofian Unit Command in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to Mr Jonathan Owoade, road traffic crashes are caused majorly by human, mechanical and environmental factors in which human factor accounts for the highest cause of crashes on roads.

Mr Owoade condemned attitude of some drivers such as over speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking and driving under alcohol influence.

Earlier, the Idofian Unit Commander, Mrs Medina Akanbi explained that the ember month safety campaign was designed to create safety awareness among motorists to reduce road traffic crashes associated with the period.

Mrs Akanbi dismissed insinuations that ember months are known for evil especially on the highways as there were some demons associated to the carnage on Nigerian roads.

Medina Akanbi assured that FRSC under the leadership of the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi would be alive to its mandate to stop the menace and create a safe motoring environment in Nigeria.

She noted that the Idofian Unit Command would step up enforcement on all the critical offences within its operational areas to ensure road traffic crashes is brought to the barest minimum and called for collaboration with other stakeholders.

The programme featured a playlet by students of Idofian Grammar School and good will messages from representatives of other sister security agencies, transport unions and Idofian community.
