HYPPADEC Reiterates Commitment To Development Of Host Communities

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC has assured host communities of its readiness to attain the mandate given to it by the Federal Government.

The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa gave this assurance when the Governing Council of the Commission paid familiarization tour to all the Riverine communities in Kwara.

Alhaji Yelwa explained that as part of the Federal Government’s effort to meet up with the yearnings of Nigerians especially communities whose rivers are providing power supply to the country, HYPPADEC was established.

He said the governing Council is going round host communities so as to intimate them on the plans ahead in making life meaningful for them.

The Chairman Governing Council of HYPPADEC, Mr Joseph Tarfa who pointed out that the commission was sign into law in 2010 and reviewed in 2013 is saddled with the mandate of tackling ecological menace, Improve living standards and initiate projects that will have direct impact on Hydroelectric host communities in Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger and Kebbi States.

He solicits support and cooperation of HYPPADEC host communities to actualize the ideas behind establishment of the commission.

In their separate remarks, the Emirs of Ilorin, Pategi, Lafiaji, Tsonga, Tsaragi and the Oba of Jebba, applauded the Federal Government for the initiative of setting up HYPPADEC and appealed to the governing Council to find lasting solution to the annual loss in farming, animal production and other valuable assets due to devastating flood.
