Kogi Assembly raises alarm over strange illness

Over fifty people have been killed following an outbreak of a strange illness in Ette, Olamaboro Local Government Area.

The member representing Olamaboro Constituency, Anthony Ujah made this known while moving a motion of urgent public importance on the floor of the house in lokoja.

Mr Ujah who noted that those affected were mostly in the reproductive age of twenty five to forty years, saying the incident had caused untold hardship on the people of the community who were mostly farmers.

According to him, symptoms of the disease include, headache, red eye, inability to urinate, convulsion and continuous stooling.

The lawmaker appealed to the State Ministry of Health to carryout testing of the strange disease in the community to ascertain the remote cause of the deaths.

He also called for the provision of palliative to the people of Ette who could no longer go to farm.

The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole in his ruling directed the Health Ministry to partner the Federal Ministry of Health to unravel the remote cause of the deaths.
