Organized Labour in Kogi State has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Kogi State government to implement the N30,000 new National Minimum Wage, which came into effect about three years ago.

The Labour union said failure to effect the minimum wage agreement will lead to indefinite strike.

Addressing a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital, on Friday, shortly after the meeting of the labour leaders, Kogi State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Onuh Edoka, lamented that the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration has refused to implement the minimum wage since assumption of office.

The NLC boss noted that the committee on minimum wage set up on 14th February 2020 by Governor Bello had refused to submit its report for the implementation of the new minimum wage and its consequential adjustment of 23 percent.

He added that the present administration has refused to cash back promotion arrears for workers and has continued to pay percentage salaries to Local Government workers and pensioners in the state, without considering the present economic hardship.

He explained that the strike action will take effect after the expiration of the two-week ultimatum which begins from the 25th of January, 2022.
