Youth in the country have been urged to embrace various agricultural programmes by Federal and States Government to increase food production and reduce unemployment.

Kwara State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Comrade Umar Aboki gave the advice in an exclusive interview with correspondent Lanre Omotoso in Ilorin.

Comrade Aboki said that with scarcity of white collar jobs, agriculture is one of the ways that would make youth to be employers of labour rather than job seekers.

The Kwara State AFAN Chairman advised farmers in the state to utilise the federal government’s diversification effort to increase food production to cater for the huge population, increase their income as well as drive hunger out of the land.

Comrade Aboki also called on Kwara State government to provide loans, subsidize chemicals and fertilizer for farmers as and when due for them to produce food massively at cheaper price.

On issue of herders-farmers clashes in some parts of the state, the Kwara AFAN chairman called for proper documentation of residents by community leaders and adoption of community policing to guide against bandits.

With rain in some parts of the state, Comrade Aboki cautioned farmers against planting, but to commence land clearing and heaps making, noting that adequate rain for planting would commence by April.
