Lest We Forget: Dignitaries Set To Attend Book Launch, 15 December

The Nigerian political space has been filled with many intrigues – Political parties trying to outdo one another in power game; politicians criss-crossing from one political party to another in an attempt to be ‘recognized’; and the followers out-witting one another with posts on social media to advance the cause of their ‘benefactors’.

In Kwara State, the story is the same. The journey to 2023 has begun. Politicians are warming up and so are the electorates. And of course, the media. As the race gathers momentum, it is important to reflect on what transpired before, during and after the 2019 General Election in the State. Hence, the launch of Lest We Forget: Kwara Political Revolution, a Broadcaster’s Personal Account.

The book encapsulates what transpired during the airing of Kwara pioneer political programme on Radio, PDP Gbode which was later renamed APC Gbode. The one hour programme which is domicile on Harmony Fm, Idofian, a station under the stables of Radio Nigeria became a toast of listeners as they were sure to get answers to their questions and a mouthpiece to relay their needs to the power that be at that time.

The book also recounts political activities prior to the 2019 General Elections in Kwara State, the aftermath of the election and subsequent change of State actors, giving way to the much talked about O to ge administration. In addition, the book captures the views of political experts and analysts on the dispositions of incumbent administration in relation to the expectations of the masses.

The author of the book, Aminah Salako Adekunle, a staff of Radio Nigeria and one of the lead presenters of Okodoro Oro, a Yoruba Newspaper review programme, has been the presenter of APC Gbode for over six years. In the book, she brought her storytelling ability to bare as she gave a vivid account of what transpired during that period not forgetting her personal encounters.

There is no doubt that the book which foreword was written by seasoned legal luminary, Prince Lateef O. Fagbemi, SAN, will be invaluable to lovers of history, political stakeholders, students of Political Science and Mass Communication departments as it examplified the role and effects of the media in politics.

The book launch will hold on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 at the Justice Mustapha Akanbi’s African People’s Hall, Ilorin by 10am.

The theme of the event is *Effective Communication: A Veritable Tool for Social Re-engineering and Peaceful Electoral Process* to be delivered by Professor Hassan Salihu of Political Science Department, University of Ilorin.

The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq will grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour while the Chief Host of the event is the Director-General of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Dr Mansur Liman. Mallam Saliu Mustapha is the Chief Launcher and Director, Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Alhaji Kunle Akogun is the book reviewer. The event will hold under the Chairmanship of Ambassador Yahaya Seriki.

The event will attract big wigs in Kwara politics, Royal Fathers and Media including Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, Alhaji LAK Jimoh, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. (Alhaji) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Member Executive Board of International Press Institute (IPI) Vienna, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, Chaiman Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kwara Council, Mr. Abdullateef Lanre Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, Professor Noah Yusuf, Chairman, Kwara State House of Assembly Commission, Hadj Femi Yusuf, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, Senior Special Assistant on Mobilization to the Kwara State Governor, Wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrazaq is the Mother of the day and businesswoman, Alhaja Bolanle Iyadunni Yusuf is the Chairperson of the Occasion, others expected are prominent personalities and representatives of higher institutions of learning in the State, Students Union Executives, amongst others.
