Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has redeemed his pledged of Ten million naira to athletes and coaches who won medals for the state in various sporting events both domestic and lnternational.
State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Othman Bala Adam made this known at a brief presentation ceremony of the cash prizes to deserving athletes and their coaches at the Premises of the Ministry in Lafia.
The Commissioner appreciated the Governor for his rationale to reward excellence, and encouraged the Athletes to maintain the winning spirits as the present administration is poise towards sports development at the grassroots level.
Mr Othman Adam described the Governor’s act as historic since the creation of the state over 24 years ago.
He added that the gesture was a morale booster for the Athletes to redouble their efforts in future events.
Some of the Athletes and Coaches who benefited from the cash reward,Beauty Timothy,Kung Fu Wushu, Chioma Ani,Karate and Ola Obamuwe coach of Golf expressed happiness and appreciation to Governor Abdullahi Sule for redeeming the pledged while assuring him of their commitment to bring more glories to the state.
The cash prizes ranged from One Hundred Thousand naira for Gold medallists,Silver medallists takes home Eighty Thousand naira while Bronze Medallists were awarded with Fifty Thousand naira each in addition to victorious Coaches who led the Athletes to victory were not left out as they were also awarded the sum of One Hundred Thousand naira each.
