Ogo Ilorin:  Magaji Nda Tasks  Govt On Hate Speech

The Magaji NDA of Ilorin Emirate, Dr. Salihu Muhammed has tasked government at all levels to put some mechanism in place to check anyone, no matter how highly place that tries to disturb the peace and unity of Nigeria.

Muhammed made this known on Thursday during the inauguration and investiture of “Ogo Ilorin” a Program organised in Conjunction with Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development in Ilorin the State Capital.

He said that the gain of unity is much more better than the pain of disunity.

He explained that hate speech is something that society must take seriously, not dismiss as something that might at worst hurt the feelings of some overly-sensitive liberals.

He also called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC),and other relevant government agencies to beam search light on clerics or anyone making hate speech or inciting comments while preaching.

Dr Muhammed noted that Ilorin prides herself as the capital of the state of Harmony and that any attempt to truncate the peaceful and harmonious coexistence in the city would be vehemently opposed in every way possible within the ambit of law.

The Magaji Nda of Ilorin Emirate congratulated the Executives and Members of ‘Ogo Ilorin’ for what he described as brilliant Initiative of protecting and promoting the age-long scholastic heritage, culture, traditions, ideals and norms of Ilorin Emirate as founded and being consolidated by Sheikh Alimi and his descendants including the present Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

In his own sermon, Mallam Shuaib AbdulSalam called sustenance of the pristine Islam and the values, culture and traditions of Ilorin of yesteryears as founded by Shehu Alimi and the successive scholars for Ilorin to retain her covet status and glory among the cities of the world.

AbdulSalam identified the need to prioritize gathering of more knowledge, fear of God, humility, unity, kindness, skills acquisition among others as necessary ingredients to have in this contemporary world,

He added that any cleric without vocational jobs will surely end up swindling unsuspecting members of the public.

Earlier in an address of welcome, the National President of OGO Ilorin, Mallam Muratadha Abdulkareem, explained that part of the goals of the Association are to protect, promote and propagate all the shining examples of Ilorin Emirate that made her stand out among others as well as vehemently address and redress defamatory and derogatory statements against Ilorin by people who are determined to soil her hard earned reputation.

He appreciated the Emir of Ilorin for throwing his weight behind the Association as well as Dr Abdulkadir Solagberu and all the chieftains and lieutenants of Emir for their support that culminated in the success of the Program.

Among other Executives inaugurated are Mr Yusuf Abdulkadir, National Secretary, Mallam Soliu Alabi, Director of Programs, Mallam Muhammdul-Awwal Salaty, Director of Finance, and Mallam Ismail Yusuf, Public Relations Officer.

The Program also featured award presentations to dignitaries who are doing Ilorin proud as well as goodwill messages from the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Dr Muhammed Bashir, the representative of the Emir of Ilorin, Grand Kadi shariah Court, Jutice Abdulkadir Muhammad, Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development among others.
