The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has backed the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA proposed drug test policy for students of tertiary institution, workers, drivers and NYSC members.

NANS President, Comrade Sunday Asefon affirmed this during his Advocacy visit to the Chairman of NDLEA, Rtd. General Mohammed Buba Marwa in Abuja.

Comrade Asefon affirmed that NANS under his watch would back any policy of government that is poised towards curbing the menace of drug and other hard substance abuse among students noting that this policy endorsement is subject to government taking responsibility of administering this test free of charge on all students.

The Students Leader also advocated the establishment of NDLEA campus based clubs and other campus based para military organization such as Man o War and Road Safety Marshal across all higher institutions in the country, stressing that such initiative would go a long way to reduce substance and drug abuse on campuses and improve scholarship, research and innovations that would contribute to National Development.

Comrade Asefon however added that the drug test must also be extended to all political office holders both in the legislature and the executive arm to ensure that those saddled with the responsibility of formulating policies and programs for the general public are not doing such under the influence of drugs.
