According to( Wikipedia) A genotype is an organism’s set of heritable genes that can be passed down from parents to offspring.
The genes take part in determining the characteristics that are observable in an organism such as hair color, height, etc. In a simple tense, blood genotype of a parent determines the characteristics possessed by a child, other factors are not inherited, it’s said to be determined by environmental factor.
Not all individuals with the same genotype look or act the same way because appearance and behavior are modified by environmental and growing conditions.
In the early sixties ,many are not aware of the implications of genotype, hence the lack of adequate consideration for it in marriage. May be the major reasons for the numerous death of young offspring referred to as “Abiku” by Yoruba African parents .
Medical experts often clearly stated that the main reason for considering genotype in marital status is to prevent the continuation of sickle cell disease, these and every other reasons led to educating African parents about genotype at the face of 20th century.
Though, as at present some typical African parents are still unaware of the implications posed against their home and their children by neglecting genotype test before signing a life contract, some are even of the opinion that it’s only the creator of souls that can determine the nature of every child, irrespective of the genotype of the parents.
However, many homes have been the victims of sickle cell disorder due to the incompatible of genotype, in most cases divorce become the order of the day due to the action and in-action of the couple. In fact there are instances where some couples despite being aware of their genotype chose to continue as husband and wife because of the love that has beclouded their heart. But is any love worthy of later pains?
It becomes sorrowful as long time emotional attachment and feelings would be halted and the lovebirds path different ways while coming to term with the reality that they are not compatible. That’s why medical experts strongly recommend that genotype test is expected to be at the forefront of any cordial affairs .

The common genotype in human is said to be AA,AS,AC and SS respectively.
American University of Nigeria in her 2020 publication tagged “Genotype compatibility” benefited us with this;
AA + AS = AA, AS, AA, AS, (Good)
AA + SS = AS, AS, AS, AS, (Fair)
AA + AC = AA, AC, AA, AC. (Good)
AS + AS = AA, AS, AS, SS, (Very Bad)
AS + SS = AS, AS, SS, SS, (Very Bad)
AS + AC = AA, AC, AS,SC. (Bad; Advice needed)
SS + SS = SS, SS, SS, SS, (Very Bad)
AC + SS = AS, AS, SS, SS, (Very Bad)
AC + AC = AA, AC, AC, SS. ( Bad; Advice needed)
In summary, The publication maintained that if AA marries AA. That’s the most compatible. That way you save your future children the worry about genotype compatibility.
AA marries an AS. You’ll end up having kids with AA and AS genotype which is good. But sometimes if you’re not lucky all the kids will be AS which limits their choice of partner.
AS and AS should not marry, there is every chance of having a child with SS while AS and SS shouldn’t think of marrying.
And definitely, SS and SS must not marry since there’s absolutely no chance of escaping having a child with the sickle cell disease.
Avoid heartbreak and the development of incompatible relationship by doing the test now, once you know, you know.
