Shea Butter Production: Stakeholders Call For Effective Collaboration

The need for more efforts by farmers, government and other relevant stakeholders have been Identified as a way to guarantee ecological stability, business enhancement and product sustainability of shea products.

National President, Shea Products Association of Nigeria NASPAN, Mallam Mohammed Kontagora made the assertion in his opening remarks at the ongoing Second Annual Shea conference in Abuja.

Mallam Kontagora said like most natural endowments, God bestowed on the country, the shea tree has grown in the wild and has multiplied through various means of dispersal but wood fuel, deforestation, farm expansion and other harmful practices, shea tree population is fast depleting.

He said although the country is endowed in shea resources,the commodity is yet to receive the needed attention  which was why the conference is conceived to promote  its visibility so as to broaden the value and attract appropriate public and private sectors to make it an essential commodity.

In his address, Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State represented by Secretary to the State Goverment, Alhaji Ahmed Matane said the aim of the project is to preserve shea tree and to promote production which is very imperative.

Governor Bello said the state government is committed to the prosperity of the intiative as it has earmarked four thousand six hundred hecters of land  for the planting of shea tree during the launch of Share Parkland Aforestation and Reforestation-Action for Parkland.
