STRIKING RESIDENT DOCTORS URGED TO RETURN TO NEGOTIATION TABLE WITH GOVERNMENT

Resident doctors who are on industrials action have been urged to return to negotiation table with Federal Government to avert untimely death among Nigerians.

Director-General, Michael Imodu Institute for Labour Studies, MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu gave the advice during a visit by technical team of National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, NSIWC, in Ilorin.

Comrade Aremu said that despite limited revenue occasioned by COVID-19, administration of President Muhammadu Buhari still pay salaries of workers.

The Director-General, Michael Imoudu Institute for Labour Studies indicated that collaboration between Michael Imodu Institute for Labour Studies and National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission would result to conflict resolution, productivity as well as educate both employers and employees on collective bargaining.

In a remark, Secretary, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Engineer David Nyikyaa, said that because of limited revenue, the commission had developed a strategy document towards implementation of comprehensive job evaluation and grading.

On salary harmonization, Dr Nyikyaa stressed that salaries were paid based on sector because of differences in jobs descriptions particularly for those in finance and oil sector.

Correspondent Lanre Omotoso reports that secretary of NSIWC emphasized that state governments were at liberty to negotiate salaries for their workers based on affordability, equitability and sustainability.
