Sudan’s Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lt- General, Abdel Fatah Al-Burhan, has ordered the restructuring of the country by introducing a true federal system of government where powers are devolved to the regions.
This is underscored by the inability of the current centralized system of government in the country to address the needs of the people.
Lt-General Abdel Fatah Al-Burhan, who is the country’s Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, on Thursday, decreed the establishment of the Federal Regional Government System, in Sudan for 2021.
The constitutional decree stipulated the implementation of the (federal) regional system of government following the convening of the Conference on the System of Government in Sudan that defines the regions, their number and borders, their structures, and powers, and the levels of governance and administration, in a manner that does not contradict the Juba Agreement for Sudan Peace 2020.
This is a similar experience in Nigeria where there has been a clamour for the restructuring of the country into a federal system of government for effective and efficient administration of the country. Nigeria currently operates a unitary system of government where power is concentrated at the centre, Abuja.
