Tackle Thuggery, IEDPU Charges Kwara NSCDC

The National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi, has appealed to the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,(NSCDC) Kwara State Command, Mr Umar Muhammed, to intensify efforts at tackling security challenges in the State.

Alhaji Uthman made this appeal on Tuesday, 29 November 2023, when he led the delegation of the Union on a courtesy visit to the NSCDC new Commandant in his office at the Corps Headquarters in Ilorin.

The President described Civil Defence Corps as a very close security agency to the community, and commended its efforts in maintaining peace and order in the state.

The President, who is a retired security technocrat, drew attention of the Commandant to the prevalence of thugs in the Emirate and the state at large, particularly those who station themselves at some strategic areas within the city of Ilorin

Alhaji Uthman emphasised that majority of the thugs are those evicted from neighbouring states, stressing that urgent steps need to be taken against their evil and ungodly acts.

The community leader, while pledging the Union’s support in th fight against crimes and criminalities in the Emirate, informed the Commandant of the 58th National Conference of the Union, coming up between 25 and 26 December, 2023 at the forecourt of Emir’s Palace, Ilorin and Afon, the Headquarters of Asa Local Government Area respectively.

The National President prayed Allah to strengthen all security agencies in Nigeria to overcome all challenges, threatening her unity and sovereignty as a nation.

Responding, the NSCDC Commandant, Mr Umar Muhammed expressed appreciation to Alhaji Uthman and members of his entourage for the visit and promised collaboration

He added that the Command could only be more effective if it had access to useful and credible information from members of the public.

He assured that his organisation and other security agencies are prepared to overcome all forms of insecurity challenges, threatening lives and property of the people.

The Commandant decried the high rate of illegal mining, emphasising that many of these criminalities were being carried out by non kwarans.

He also urged the Union and all community leaders to work across the board in resolving land disputes in their different domains.

The National President was accompanied on the visit by the National Vice President, Alhaji Abdul Mumini Abdulmalik, the National Secretary, Mallam Abubakar Imam, the Publicity Secretary, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim, Assistant National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Sulaiman Shuaib Dagbo as well as Chairman Security Committee of the Union, Alhaji Abdullahi Jubril Yusuf.
