United Kaiama Women Call For Proper Child Up Bringing

Lack of proper parental care has been identified as the main cause of increasing cases of drugs and substance abuse among the youth.

This was the submission by various speakers at the maiden meeting of United Kaiama Women held in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

A muslim Cleric, Mallam AbdulRahman Shehu from University of Ilorin noted that many parents had abandoned their responsibility of taking care of their God given children.

Mallam Shehu charged parents to inculcate fear of God in their Children and Wards, reminding the parents that they would give account of their children before God in the hereafter.

In his presentation, Dr Omar Ibrahim Hassan enumerated various causes of drug abuse to include biological, behavioural and social influence, peer group, stress and depression among others.

He emphasised the need for everyone to stand against drug abuse at all cost as it could lead to dangerous complications that would affect both the victims and their family members.

Earlier, President of the United Kaiama Women, Hajia Mairo Azumi Umar stressed that there is need for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to tackle issue of drugs and substance abuse.

She observed that the menace of drug abuse is not limited to any gender, hence, parents should monitor their children with keen attention.

Also speaking, the Chief Superintendent of Narcotic, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Ango Mohammed Tukur urged other stakeholders to join hands with the agency to fight against the menace of drugs abuse.

There were goodwill messages from eminent personalities including the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Architect Muhammed Saifudeen and former Head of Service, Hajia Zarah Umar.
