UNIVERSITY DON ADVOCATES ELECTRONIC POLICING TO CURB BANDITRY.

A University Don has advocated for electronic policing to curb banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges facing the country.

The Dean, Faculty of Communications and Information Science, University of Ilorin, Professor Rasheed Jimoh made the call in an exclusive interview with correspondent Lanre Omotoso in Ilorin.

ProfessorJimoh said to curb insecurity in the country, surveillance monitoring system must be deployed to every parts of the country to monitor movement of criminal elements.

He said that electronic policing when properly deployed would monitor and record criminal activities that could be reviewed anytime as well as compliment efforts of the police.

While noting that developed countries utilized electronic policing to reduce crime, Professor Jimoh said it reduces compromise that is associated with physical policing.

The University Don commended Federal Government for the ongoing registration of national identification number, saying it is a right move in the right direction.

The Dean, Faculty of Communications and Information Science, University of Ilorin, noted that with national identification number, criminal calls would be monitored and perpetrators be brought to book.
